Yearly Routine Physical Exams for Children and Adolescents

Children and Adolescents need a routine yearly physical exam to ensure that they are growing appropriately. These appointments are typically scheduled around the child’s birthday or just prior to the start of the school year.

The following services are provided during the routine yearly exam:
• Height and weight measurements
• Routine vaccinations
• Complete physical exam
• Developmental / school performance screening
• Nutrition assessment and dietary guidance
• Hearing and vision screening
• Sports, Day Care, and Camp physicals are offered when requested
• Screening blood work is ordered when appropriate*

Newborns
Newborns

Newborns and infants need frequent check-ups during their first few years of life to ensure that they are growing and developing on track.

The following are services provided during a routine baby check-up:
• Height, Weight, and Head Growth measurements
• Newborn Screen (at the 2 week check-up)
• Routine vaccinations
• Complete physical exam
• Developmental screening
• Nutrition assessment and dietary guidance
• Screening blood work is ordered when appropriate

 

Recommended Doctor’s Visits

The American Academy of Pediatrics has a recommended schedule of visits for children starting soon after they are born. You should visit a doctor for a well-child checkup:

  • at 3 to 5 days after birth
  • at 1 month old
  • at 2 months old
  • at 4 months old
  • at 6 months old
  • at 9 months old
  • at 12 months old
  • at 15 months old
  • at 18 months old
  • at 24 months old
  • at 30 months old
  • at 3 years old
  • at 4 years old

After age 4, a well-child visit should take place every year and should include a physical exam and a developmental, behavioral, and learning assessment.
